Vancouver Family Photography + Outdoor Cake Smash

Did you know? I photograph cake smashes! I get asked this question quite regularly as families often follow me through their maternity photos, newborn photos, sometimes baby’s 6 month milestone photos, and of course we can’t forget about the one year old portraits.

A popular thing to do amongst my clients is to book the largest/longest package I offer, and then split that up into two parts: a family session in the first half, and finally a cake smash at the end. “Kill two birds with one stone,” as they’d say, or, since I’m an animal lover and that saying really doesn’t sit too well with me, I prefer “free two birds with one key.” :)

Either way, you will get the best of both worlds! My cake smash sessions generally take place outdoors and I’m of the philosophy that simple and classic is best. I want your baby to be the focus of these smash sessions and not lost in an overly done scene of random props. Due to health and safety reasons, you will bring the cake and any props you’d like to use.

I strive to capture the smiles, the lit up eyes, the fingers and toes, and of course, the mess that may hopefully ensue. I have a beautiful white vintage high chair that we can use, or we can set up on a neutral looking blanket. Think either a few balloons or a minimal amount of flowers, enough to add to the cute scene of your baby getting down and dirty with their cake, but not detract from it.
